UWEWH Celebrates 95th Anniversary
United Way of Essex and West Hudson (UWEWH) recently celebrated 95 years of servicing the community with a gala at The Mezzanine in Newark. The Roaring 20’s themed event drew in special guests including Governor Phil Murphy, US Attorney Craig Carpenito and a host of corporate and community partners. The New York Jets were honored for their anti bullying and Character Playbook initiatives geared toward school aged children. United Way of Essex and West Hudson Board Chair, Jorge Caballero was also recognized for his long standing commitment to the organization. Catherine Wilson, President & CEO of UWEWH delivered a strong message outlining the literacy, financial empowerment and health programs that are currently being offered within the footprint of UWEWH.
One of the highlights of the evening was the UWEWH Museum that allowed guests to view original documents from the archives that meticulously showed ledgers and meeting minutes dating back to the 1930’s as well as a photo history showcasing community involvement. Guests also enjoyed a live auction and tricky tray with items including box ticket seats to a NJ Devils game, a custom painting that was painted live, high end electronics and handbags just to name a few!
